The Triple Dip

Usually when you hear of a triple dip visions of 3 scoops of ice cream sitting on a waffle cone come to mind. For me if its got 3 scoops of ice cream throw it in a bowl add some hot fudge, peanut butter sauce, whip cream, a cherry, and some Reese's Pieces. Then you have just made a Reese's Pieces Sundae from Friendly's (an ice cream and diner chain that is predominant on the east coast). So I guess it is safe to say that when I go to excess for my triple dip then I go all the way.

Such was the same case on Saturday night. After attending one of my Hockey Brother's wedding I was invited to come out and play a game for the Silver Wings (aka "The Mini's" as all players on the team own or some how is connected with the Mini Cooper automobile). They were going to be shorthand for the first game of the new season. Knowing that I was already scheduled to play back-to-back for the Grave Diggers and The Komets, I felt it was the perfect time to go to excess.

After having a long and mentally challenging week, it was time to test our my physical well being. During a typical week I spend 3-4 days working out in the weight room (or some other sort of exercise) all in preparation for playing hockey on Saturday nights. Not only has this benefited me in many ways (over the last year it has lowered my resting heart rate to the low 50's, my blood pressure has dropped, and my cholesterol level has been staying below 161) it has allowed me a way to bond with fellow like minded individuals.

Saturday night was a long hard fight with my first two games being a loss and The Komets game being the only win. However when it was all said and done I was tired but refreshed at the same time. Not only did I get to play with some Super Stars of our league (Supergirl, Sergio, Bobby, Bruce, and No Brakes), I also was able to help introduce some friends to the game of hockey. I was so happy that my other non-hockey friends were able to come out, watch a game, and join in the post game camaraderie with the players. The night was filled with some sadness as we said goodbye to our team Captain of The Komets. After multiple seasons, through thick and thin Bruce is leaving the team to move closer to his family in San Diego. For those that do not know Bruce he was the eldest member of our team, a Gentleman who led by example. He has been a mentor of mine on how to keep my composure and lead the team in many instances. I hope that someday I am able to co-Captain a team and lead by the example that he set.

To top things off I was able to sit down with some of my very closest friends and have those one on one endearing conversations where no judgements are past but a greater bond is brought between us. My favorite quote of the night was "to see the way you guys care for each and respect each other shows a bond that does not always exist in other cultures". If you get the chance come out and watch one of the games. You too might enjoy the camaraderie.
